Why does my linen closet keep sliding back into a pile?
Soft stacks do not stay put. One hand in for a pillowcase, and the row tips. Then the guest set is mixed with the everyday set, and you are folding again on a Sunday night.
What stops it is boring. One shelf gets one job. A label tells the next person where that set goes back.
What job should each shelf get?
I would not try to make every shelf match.
Eye level is for the sheets you change this week. The ones you do not want to hunt for.
Guest sets get one spot. Together. Not one on the left, one behind the towels, one on the floor of the closet because it did not fit.
Seasonal blankets and quilts go higher, or on their own shelf. If a thing is heavy, put it lower, where the shelf can take it.
Leave a little empty. A set coming back from the wash needs a place to land, or it starts a new pile on the floor.
Where do everyday sheets go vs guest sets vs seasonal blankets?
Everyday sheets: eye-level boxes. One set in a box. King or Queen usually fits our gray linen-type sheet organizers. Each one is 15.0 × 4.5 × 12.6 in. Four in the pack. There is a window and a label, so you are not opening three boxes to find the king set.

If two boxes look the same through the window, the label is what saves you. The fold will not.
What if the closet is tiny?

What should I do this weekend?
Only the everyday shelf. Do not empty the whole closet. This is the short way to organize a linen closet when you do not have a free Saturday for the whole job.

- Pull the quilts out of the sheet stack. Into a 66L.
